Parasite:
An organism that lives on or in a host organism and that gets its food from or at the expense of its host

Parent Material:

Parent material consists of rock that has been broken down as a result of a physical, chemical or biological weathering. In physical weathering, the rocks are broken down into smaller and smaller pieces as a result of wind, water, ice or temperature changes. Chemical weathering involves a chemical change to the rock resulting in the further break-down of the parent material. Biological weathering occurs as a result of the actions of plants. The roots of plants might crack and break apart rock as the roots grow. Plants, such as lichens, produce chemicals that form a layer of crumbled rock or mineral soil.

Photosynthesis:
The process by which plants use light energy trapped by chlorophyll to change carbon dioxide and water into food
Photosynthesis is the chemical process during which green plants convert light energy, carbon dioxide and water in the presence of chlorophyll into carbohydrates. Oxygen is produced as a by-product of this process.

Plankton:
Small to microscopic organisms that live near the ocean's surface and are carried along by the Ocean
currents. Animal plankton are called zooplankton, and plant plankton are called phytoplankton

Pollutants:
Substances that destroy the purity of air, water, or land. Can you think of different types of substances that you and your family use everyday which can cause pollution.

Polyp  :
A tiny, tubelike marine animal of which live coral is made, one end of which is attached to the sea bottom, to rocks, or to one another and the opposite end of which is a mouth surrounded by fingerlike, stinging tentacles

Population :
This is a group of the same species living together in one place. This could be the population of the UK, meaning humans living in the UK Country, or a population of Orangutans. Do you know what Orangutans are?

Precipitation :
Water that returns to the earth as rain, hail, sleet, or snow. Do you know how the water gets into the air?

Predator:
Any animal that hunts and kills other animals for food Predator. Can you think of any predators that may be in your garden? And what is the victim of the predator called?

Prevailing winds:
Winds that blow consistently from one direction
