Why
recycle?
Recycling takes the things that you
have which you no longer want or use and turns them into something new. It could
be the same thing as you had before, or even a totally different item. For
instance, writing paper might be made into new writing paper, or maybe even
toilet paper. A glass bottle can be recycled and made into a new bottle, where
as plastic bottles are turned into fleeces, or even fillings for your duvet.
It is
good to recycle, because if we didn’t all the rubbish we create every day would
make a huge mountain of rubbish that could take many years to decompose into the
ground. If you have a baby in your family, imagine all the nappies they use,
did you know that one nappy can take nearly 500 years to decompose

What happens to my rubbish if I recycle it?
Once you have put your rubbish to be recycled out for collection,
or taken them to the recycling site, they will be picked up to the re-processors.
These are big factories, where they sort the rubbish out into different types of rubbish.
These big machines chew all the rubbish up into little bits, and it gets cleaned too.
These little bits are then used in making new things which go to the shops to be sold for you to buy.
Next time you go to the supermarket, see how many things are available to buy which have the words
“made from recycled materials” on them
